Success Tails with Whippet Snippets
Kerry Jordan runs Whippet Snippets Dog Photographer, who specialises in sighthounds but photographs all breeds in the beautiful great outdoors. Kerry has been running her photography business full time for four years.
What has been your biggest challenge so far on your business journey?
Self confidence is always an issue. Any slight negativity really hits me hard. Thankfully I now embrace this as it makes me better at what I do. Sometimes you have to take a knock to see how to do something better next time and continue to grow.
What steps did you take to get your business up and running?
Honestly, I floated around for so long, I didn’t have clue. I had no direction and kept plodding along. It was only when I started reading business and marketing books that I realised I needed to do a business plan – it only took me four years!
What business tools do you use?
I don’t think I have a business tool apart from The Barking Tribe.
Kerry has been a member of The Barking Tribe for approximately 7 months and first found it through Twitter chat hour #woofwoofwednesday.
During our 1-2-1 business consultation “I babbled for about 10 minutes as I had so much going on in my head. Katie made me focus on one thing; pricing. She wanted me to double my lowest offering which made me feel a little ill. I did it thinking, it’s fine, if it doesn’t work at least I tried. Not only did it work, I have not had a downfall in clients, in fact I think this has now become my busiest year. I have also just had my 2nd client booking on the next package up!” Kerry then decided to become a member of The Barking Tribe.
“The Barking Tribe has given me the confidence in my products and the resources for social media have been great, as well as the challenges set such as the PR challenge. Having a community of supportive, like minded business owners has really been a breath of fresh air.”
What keeps you motivated?
I honestly just want to be the best at what I do and give my clients the best experience I can. This pushes me to learn more, I think education in your craft is so important. The Barking Tribe helps me stay focused and it’s fabulous to have accountability partners to bounce things off.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting a pet business or has just started one?
Don’t expect immediate results. It can be frustrating when you are starting out to see the successes of others in your field. You have to remember that they were where you are now.
What is your favourite quote?
The harder you work, the luckier you get.
